Reaching out and Building a Better Coalition.
The Glendale Coalition for Better Governments Organized a dinner* gathering with a group of citizens from Riverside and Moreno Valley to learn and share experiences in dealing with local government. During the meeting, participants exchanged experiences and successful methods on accomplishing positive change to their respective cities. We learned much about methods in holding local government accountable and transparent.
Individuals from Riverside explained to us the pitfalls of dealing in good faith during settlement negotiations with local government. The Riverside Group had also sued and settled with the city of Riverside. Their experience was valuable and would be used in dealing with Glendale and the current litigation that the GCBG is pursuing against the city.
We also learned about resources and methods for examining financial data and auditing city finances. The Coalition will begin to implement these methods in the future to further our mission to advocate for a sustainable, responsible and sustainable government. As the Coalition’s ability grows, we continue to be diligent in our responsibility to educate ourselves and learn from the experiences of fellow citizen groups to how to accomplish positive change.
* all dinner expenses were paid by board members individually. No GCBG funds where used.
